Spring 2014 Brazil Initiative Collaboration Grants Awarded

The spring 2014 awardees of the Brazil Initiative Collaboration grants were selected in mid-March. The grantees are:

  • Christopher de Graffenried and Amanda Jamieson, collaborating with the University of São Paulo on a project concerning leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease common in Brazil.
  • Nicola Neretti and John Sedivy from the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry, collaborating with the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Federal University of Santa Maria on research related to healthy aging and age-related disease.
  • Stephen Porder, from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, collaborating with the State University of Santa Cruz and the Instituto Floresta Viva (Living Rainforest Institute) on research on restoring the Atlantic Rainforest.
  • Leah Van Wey, from the Department of Sociology, collaborating with the University of Campinas and the Federal University of Pará, on a project assessing the social impact of hydroelectric dam construction in the Brazilian Amazon.
