Brazilian Congress Votes to Impeach President Dilma Rousseff

Sunday, April 17, 2016 - with a vote of 367 to 146 led by house speaker Eduardo Cunha, Brazil's lower house of congress pushed forward the impeachment of President Rousseff. The Senate is expected to consider the motion within weeks, at which point Dilma Rousseff will have to step away from the presidency for 180 days. In the midst of this political climate, supporters of the Rousseff government continue to demand that their votes from the 2014 election be respected and that the democratic election process be held above impeachment processes.
