This lecture will explore the lessons to be drawn from tactical contributions of diplomacy to the building of a strong America, the pitfalls of coercive diplomacy, the probable impact on American diplomacy of current global trends, and the proposed US-north Korean summit and its prospects.

This lecture is the second of a three-part series on Statecraft and Diplomacy in Challenging Times delivered by Chas Freeman.

The final lecture will be held on April 17 "Diplomacy as Risk Management."
