Brown in the World: Travel Grants

April 17, 2016

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the Cogut Center for the Humanities funding in support of providing substantial travel grant support for graduate students wishing to do research abroad.

Brown in the World: Travel Grants

Through the Brown in the World travel grants program, graduate students associated with humanities have the opportunity to apply for a limited number of grants in support of research travel abroad. These grants can afford invaluable learning experiences for young scholars in training, enriching their perspectives, scholarship and networks of colleagues around the globe. Grants may cover transportation, housing and other research-related expenses.

To apply, Brown graduate students must submit the following electronically:

  1. An abstract (no more than one page) outlining your planned research and how it would benefit from the proposed travel.
  2. A detailed budget (up to $10,000).
  3. A letter of support from your department’s Director of Graduate Study.
  4. A letter of support from your advisor.

All recipients are expected to submit a narrative report (no more than two pages) of their trip to the Cogut Center at the conclusion of their travel.

Applications will be accepted beginning May 1, 2016 and evaluated on a rolling basis. Send all applications to humanities_center@brown.edu. Please address any questions to Department Manager Kit Salisbury (kit@brown.edu). All funds must be expended by December 30, 2017.
