Terms of Reference

Questscope for Social Development in the Middle East is an international non-governmental organization established in the UK and registered in Jordan for social development with disadvantaged youth in the MENA region. Questscope is dedicated to transforming the future of vulnerable youth and communities in the Middle East––by equipping them with the resources and hope they need to become compassionate and productive citizens.

Questscope seeks a researcher to conduct a full evaluation of its Za’atri Camp programming, including a review of past programming (2013-present) and an analysis of current programming. The objective of this research is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of current/past programming in order to improve both the current Za’atri program as well as Questscope’s future interventions both inside and outside of the camp.

Responsibilities will include evaluation design, data collection and analysis, compilation of final report (preferably in Arabic and English), and presentation (in Arabic) of findings to internal and external stakeholders. The study will include interviews and/or FGDs with key stakeholders (beneficiaries, volunteers, families, community leaders, neighbors, Questscope staff, and/or staff of other organizations working in Za’atri Camp including UNHCR and SRAD); quantitative analysis of current program’s data including Mentoring Program assessments; 1-3 in depth case studies; and more (to be determined in collaboration with Questscope staff).

The position is unpaid, will require about 3 days of work per week, and will last for a period of three months during summer/fall 2016. The researcher will spend part of his/her time in Questscope’s Amman office and part of his/her time in Questscope’s site in Za’atri Camp. Transportation to and from the camp, as well as permission to enter the camp, will be secured by Questscope.

Requirements

1. Fluency in English and Levantine Arabic

2. Excellent interpersonal skills

3. Excellent writing skills (English required; MSA also preferred)

4. Research experience (including background in statistical analysis) with

sensitivity to humanitarian settings, preferably with work experience in conflict

zones
