Middle East Studies

Lara Savenije

“After completing my degree in Middle East Studies in May 2015, I have moved to Istanbul where I work as a research assistant at the Migration Studies Center at Koç University. Together with our team, I work on topics such as welfare provision to migrants and asylum-seekers, transit and temporary migration, as well as the Syrian refugee crisis in Turkey. In addition, I work as a part-time English language teacher. As I work and move through Istanbul’s diverse neighborhoods, I continue to explore and develop my personal interest and understanding of the role of gender as well as the sense of belonging, in particular of Kurdish women, in contemporary Turkey.”
