November 13, 2014

Nirupama Rao, former ambassador of India to the United States and the Brown-India Initiative’s Meera and Vikram Gandhi Fellow, has been awarded a Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund.

The prestigious two-year fellowship is designed to support “not only projects of highly sophisticated and technical subjects, but also … study in depth of current problems relevant to the India of today,” according to the Fund’s website. Rao’s project, which she will begin after her tenure at Brown, is titled "The Politics of History: India and China, 1949-1962."
