What's Killing American Babies Before Their First Birthday?

July 1, 2016

Infants that are one month to one year of age have a higher mortality rate in America than in other developed nations, according to a paper co-authored by Emily Oster. “Most European countries have basically more or less universal home visiting programs,” said Oster, associate professor of economics at Brown University. “It is among the relatively few things that differs in a way that we can see that link.” Oster and the other researchers caution against looking too much into the effects of nurse visits, saying other things may come into play.
