Project Title: Environmental Subjectivity Creation through Community-based Development Organi- zation WASH Intervention

This thesis research project applies a theoretical framework of environmentality to the
work of a non-governmental organization (FORCE) which works on water, health, and
sanitation issues in communities in Delhi, India. I aim to examine the methods and
techniques through which this organization, as well as government practice, shape the
subjectivities of citizens as they relate to the environment and specifically to water.
Through an in-depth study of an individual intervention on the part of FORCE, I will
examine how participation in this intervention on the behalf of residents contributes to
the shaping of an environmental consciousness.
