Taubman Center Lunch Lecture: ProvPlan's DataHUB and Community Profiles: Complimentary Data Platforms for Policy Research

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

Taubman Center for Public Policy and American Institutions, Seminar Room

The Providence Plan is developing two statewide public data platforms that bring together a wealth of information for policy, economic and social science research.

The Rhode Island Community Profiles is an easy-to-use data display and mapping tool that provides information from demographics and socioeconomics to health and transportation. It accommodates both curated census data as well as administrative data aggregated to census geographies.

The DataHUB is a true integrated data system that links individual-level person records across multiple state agencies in order to answer key policy questions. Once records are linked in the super-secure core, aggregate data are published to a public website where they can be accessed in different formats from interactive reports and user-configurable visualizations to “Data Stories” where many data points are brought together to explore an essential policy question.

Jim Lucht and Rebecca Lee, Director and Assistant Director of the Providence Plan's Information Group will provide an overview of how to access and utilize these valuable local data sources.

A light lunch will be provided.
