David Blanding, Taubman Center for Public Policy - The Voting Rights Act: A Tale of Two Tenses

Blanding will use content analysis to identify competing elite interpretations of the Voting Rights Act within the Congressional Record. As Congress debates a response to the Supreme Court's decision in Shelby County v. Holder, understanding elite interpretations of the Voting Rights Act may help conservatives and liberals achieve common ground.

David Blanding is postdoctoral research associate at the Taubman Center for Public Policy, where he teaches two courses -- Race and Public Policy and Public Policy and Public Opinion. He is currently examining the evolution of voting rights and school desegregation policy in the U.S. He received a BA in political science from Boston University, and holds both an MA and a PhD in political science from Brown.
