Nicole Alexander-Scott - Setting Health Policy in Rhode Island

Director of Health Nicole Alexander-Scott, MD, MPH will present the strategic priorities of the Rhode Island Department of Health. She will discuss statewide health initiatives, including the Healthcare Innovation Workgroup and Health Equity Zones, and examine how we can help ensure that statewide health policies reflect the goals set by the Department, other state agencies, and the community.

Nicole Alexander-Scott, MD, MPH was appointed Department of Health director in April, 2015. She is also an assistant professor of pediatrics and medicine at Brown. Her focus as director has been on the social and environmental determinants of health, health equity, and access to quality health services for all. Before becoming director, she served for six years as consultant medical director for the Office of HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STDs, and TB in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology at the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Dr. Alexander-Scott completed a four-year combined fellowship in adult and pediatric infectious diseases at Brown University. She is board certified in pediatrics, internal Medicine, pediatric infectious diseases, and adult infectious diseases. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Brown.
