Thursday, October 13, 2016

12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

Watson Institute, Joukowsky Forum

Beyond the sound bites and scripted media ploys - an in-depth discussion about how "real" community policing in the urban setting can have a positive impact.

Kobi Dennis, a native of the South Side of Providence, has extensive expertise in advocating and addressing issues pertaining to the urban community. His most recent initiative, Unified Solutions, is a community-lead collaborative that has offered programs that have empowered thousands of community members.

In 2011, in partnership with the Rhode Island State Police, Dennis launched the Building Bridges Initiative to help improve police and community relations. He also partnered with state and local law enforcement, community members and local businesses to found Project Night Vision, a free after-school program for kids ages 12-18. Dennis recently relaunched the Providence Midnight Basketball Leagues to provide an athletic outlet to inner-city adult men. Dennis also facilitates anti-bullying and violence prevention trainings as a consultant with the Partnership to Address Violence through Education.
