Children of the 1% are 77 times more likely to attend an Ivy League school than poor Americans

August 17, 2017 Business Insider

Children whose parents belong to the top 1 percent of the income ladder are 77 times more likely to attend an Ivy League university, according to a new paper published in the National Bureau for Economic Research. The findings come at a time when President Trump is pushing on cutting taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans, which Business Insider suggests further amplifies inequalities in the U.S. The paper is co-authored by John N. Friedman, an associate professor of international and public affairs, and economics.
