András Derzsi-Horváth

ICRC Deputy Head of Sub-Delegation in Donietsk, Ukraine

András Derzsi-Horváth is the Deputy Head of Sub-Delegation in Donietsk, Ukraine for ICRC. Previously, Derzsi-Horváth was ICRC head of office in Puerto Asis, Colombia. Prior to joining ICRC, Derzsi-Horváth was a research associate with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPI) in Berlin. He works on projects specific to peace and security and humanitarian action, with a focus on governance, financing and non-Western actors. With GPPI he completed a project focusing on security assistance and non-state actors in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Previously, Derzsi-Horváth worked as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq and as editor for the International Relations and Security Network in Switzerland. Derzsi-Horváth completed a master’s in public policy from the Central European University and also holds a joint master’s degree in international relations and economics and a bachelor’s degree in oriental languages and cultures, all from Hungarian state universities.

Derzsi-Horváth has worked on humanitarian issues since 2011, primarily as part of research and consultancy projects. His work has focused on questions surrounding humanitarian financing, coordination, and protection. He has drafted strategy papers for the European Commission, the UK’s Department for International Development, and the German Federal Foreign Office, among others. He currently supports an international NGO in developing corporate advisory for their country directors, including on risk management, and inter-agency planning and coordination. As an aid worker in Iraq from 2013 to 2014, Derzsi-Horváth designed and coordinated humanitarian assistance and protection programs in three Iraqi provinces and advocated with local stakeholders for access and support, on behalf of the ICRC.
