CHRHS Visiting Scholar

Chiara Romano Bosch is the Visiting United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Scholar at Brown University’s Center for Human Rights and Human Studies. Chiara currently works for the WFP headquarters in Rome, Italy; working as a Humanitarian-Military Interaction Officer. In this role, Chiara provides technical oversight and first wave surge support to WFP’s operations in order to address potential civil-military coordination gaps and to better enable overall humanitarian access for life-saving WFP responses. Chiara has served at WFP for 7 years and before her current post, she covered a number of diverse roles within the organization – all within the realm of emergency preparedness and response – acting as a Special Advisor, Programme Officer, Supply-Chain Officer and Emergency Preparedness Officer across Djibouti, Yemen, the Sahel, Haiti, Bahamas, Venezuela and others, in both in complex emergencies and natural disaster responses. Most recently, Chiara has been deployed to the Ukraine conflict, working between the political level and the contact lines. Prior to working at WFP, she also dabbled briefly in journalism- which remains a strong area of interest In parallel, Chiara is also a founding member of Liminal, a research-consultancy design platform which looks at finding multi-disciplinary approaches to tackle problems related to de-population and degrading infrastructure in the Italian countryside, an initiative that lucky to be supported by institutions such as MIT. Chiara holds a Master of Arts in Conflict, Security and Development from King’s College London (UK) and a bilingual BA in International Relations from the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija (Spain).
