Organized by Vangelis Calotychos, visiting associate professor of Comparative Literature, this is the final film in the series “Confined Spaces, Political Choices in New Films from the Middle East.”

Directed by Yannis Sakaridis, 86 minutes, 2016, Greece.

The namesake of this film Plateia Amerikis (Greek for American Square) is an Athens square famous as a gathering spot for Greece’s refugees and undocumented workers. Interweaving several stories and characters, the film explores the European refuge crisis during Greece’s ongoing financial crisis.
