The increasing political success of populist leaders has imperiled democracy and human rights worldwide.  Celebrated Turkish author and journalist Ece Temelkuran, in her book How to Lose a Country: The 7 Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship, explores this threat and analyzes the similar strategies that politicians in Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and elsewhere have followed in order to promote their agendas and consolidate power, thereby slowly eroding democratic institutions and freedoms.

In this book talk open to all members of the public, Ece Temelkuran will answer Professor Stephen Kinzer’s questions about “How to Lose A Country” and will share her learned experience of Turkey to reflect on the future of other democratic countries.
