Kelley Tackett ‘20 will research community-engaged archaeology in India with Fulbright scholarship

Kelley Tackett

Kelley Tackett is a triple-concentrator in Middle East studies, archaeology, and linguistic anthropology. With a Fulbright fellowship beginning summer 2020, she will spend a year researching the development of community-engaged archaeology in India and exploring how existing legal systems can better prioritize living populations over ancient material heritage. Building on her thesis research concerning the relationships between Petra Archaeological Park and its local communities in Jordan, she hopes to further examine how the past is mobilized and made meaningful in the present, and what a justice-oriented archaeology might require, taking seriously and learning from non-disciplinary ways of thinking about the material world.
