Position Description 
The Center for Middle East Studies at Brown University invites applications for a one-year post-doctoral research associate position in Iranian Studies with a possibility of renewal for a second year. We especially welcome candidates who thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and whose work is informed by comparative and global perspectives. The Center is interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The postdoctoral research associate receives up to two years of support, with the expectation that they will pursue research and participate fully in the intellectual life of the Center.  Associates will teach one class a year for the Center for Middle East Studies, advise students, and participate in research-related programming on campus.

Qualifications
The position is open to all the humanities and social science disciplines.  Scholars who received PhDs within three years of the application deadline are eligible to apply. The postdoctoral research associate is required to be in residence in the Providence area during the academic year and will receive an annual stipend of $60,000, for this benefits-eligible position. Additional funding can be made available for research expenses and research-related programming on campus depending on budgetary considerations. Candidates selected who have not completed their dissertations by the start date of July 1, 2023, will be paid a reduced salary until their dissertation is defended, which is required to occur before August 31, 2023.

  • Cover letter summarizing your current research and proposed work during the appointment period. The statement should not exceed 1,500 words

  • Up-to-date curriculum vitae

  • Teaching statement: experience in and approaches to undergraduate students, and teaching in a diverse and inclusive classroom

  • Proposed syllabus

  • Three letters of recommendation from scholars familiar with the applicant’s research

  • Writing sample

  • Official copy of each graduate transcript.

We will conduct online interviews with short-listed candidates in early December. The award will be announced in February 2023.
