Position Description
The Center for Middle East Studies at Brown University invites applications for a one-year post-doctoral research associate position in Palestinian Studies with a possibility of renewal for a second year. The position is part of the ongoing initiative, New Directions in Palestinian Studies, which seeks to facilitate innovative lines of academic inquiry in this field. We especially welcome candidates who thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and whose work is informed by comparative and global perspectives. The Center is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. This appointment will initially be for one year renewable for a second year on the recommendation of the director of the Center for Middle East Studies. The postdoctoral research associate receives up to two years of support, with the expectation that they will pursue research and participate fully in the intellectual life of the Center.  Associates will teach one class a year for the Center for Middle East Studies, take a leadership role in organizing the annual New Directions in Palestinian Studies workshop, advise students, and participate in research-related programming on campus.

Qualifications

The position is open to all the humanities and social science disciplines. Scholars who received PhDs within five years of the application deadline are eligible to apply. The postdoctoral research associate is required to be in residence in the Providence area during the academic year and will receive an annual stipend of $60,000, for this benefits-eligible position. Additional funding can be made available for research expenses and research-related programming on campus depending on budgetary considerations. Candidates selected who have not completed their dissertations by the start date of July 1, 2023, will be paid a reduced salary until their dissertation is defended, which is required to occur before August 31, 2023.
