The Providence Committee on Foreign Relations presents:
Treasures of the Earth: Need, Greed, and a Sustainable Future
Dr. Saleem Ali, Associate Professor of Environmental Planning and Asian Studies, at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Vermont, and adjunct associate professor, Watson Institute, Brown University.
Treasures of the Earth: Need, Greed, and a Sustainable Future, is also the title of his book published in October 2009 by Yale University Press. Dr. Ali will give us his objective overview of the recent Copenhagen conference and the whole fractious worldwide climate debate.
Dr. Ali was born in Massachusetts but spent his youth in Lahore, Pakistan before enrolling successively at Tufts, University of London, and Yale. He joined General Electric Corporation for two years, following which he completed his doctorate in environmental planning at MIT. He is now on the faculty of the University of Vermont and the adjunct faculty at the Watson Institute here at Brown. His field experience spans six continents and he teaches over a broad range including environmental chemistry and conflicts in the extractive industries and environmental conflict resolution.
