Javier Auyero, professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, will present a lecture titled "In Harm's Way at the Urban Margins," from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Watson Institute's McKinney Conference Room. The Center will host a wine and cheese reception immediately following the lecture.  The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Endowed Professor in Latin American Sociology at UT Austin, Professor Auyero specializes in political ethnography, urban poverty and social inequality, collective action, and Latin American studies. His published work includes "Flammable: Environmental Suffering in an Argentine Shantytown" (with Debora Swistun), "Routine Politics and Violence in Argentina: The Gray Zone of State Power," "Contentious Lives: Two Women, Two Protests, and the Quest for Recognitioin," and "Poor People's Politics."
