On March 20th, 2011 , general elections where held in Haiti . During the election period , two former presidents returned , Jean Bernard Aristide and Jean Claude Duvalier . The Haitian general elections were held against the background of the continued effects of January 12 , 2010 earthquake and the slow pace of recovery and reconstruction . Within these contexts what are the politics which drive Haitian society today? How may we understand Haitian politics today ? Is there a historic model of Haitian politics at play? These and other questions will be answered in panel a discussion , The Politics of Haiti Today .
Panelists will be :
Professor Alex Dupuy , Professor of Sociology at Wesleyan University and the author of many books on Haitian society and politics .
Nancy Roc. , Haitian Journalist who has written extensively on Haitian politics .
Patrick Sylvain , Haitian writer and lecturer of Haitian language and Creole at Brown University
This panel discussion is a part of the program , Reframing Haiti : Art, History and Performativity .
