CANCELED: Negotiating Humanitarian Access in Armed Conflict

Monday, April 13, 2020

12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

McKinney Conference Room, 111 Thayer Street

All across the globe—from Syria to Afghanistan, Yemen to Nigeria, Myanmar to Colombia—humanitarian crises continue to unfold. In order to access people in dire need of lifesaving aid, international humanitarian organizations need to negotiate with the governments and rebel groups that control territory. At stake in these negotiations is the principled nature of humanitarian action, and the risk that aid efforts will become politicized. Rob Grace, a doctoral candidate in political science at Brown University, will discuss the dynamics at play in these negotiations. The discussion will draw on his doctoral research at Brown University, with a focus on the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.

This event is part of the Human Security Seminar Series.
