​Heeshik Yang ─ The Partnership History and Future-Oriented Alliance of The U.S. Republic of Korea

The Partnership History and Future-Oriented Alliance of The U.S.-Republic of Korea” will explore the historical relationship between the U.S. and Republic of Korea (ROK) that began in 1866, and speak about the future-oriented measures of the Mutual Defense Treaty Between the U.S. and ROK (Alliance) signed in 1953.  This presentation will emphasize the importance of the U.S.-R.O.K. alliance to safeguard the values of liberal democracy in a rapidly changing security environment on the Korean Peninsula, and further discuss the direction that should be pursued for lasting peace.

Military Fellows Speaker Series

Heeshik Yang I entered the Korea Military Academy in 2002. And I was commissioned as a Republic of Korea Army Infantry officer in 2006(major in international relations). I served as Platoon leader from 2006 to 2007, as Company commander from 2009 to 2013, and earned a master's degree in 2016(major in security strategy). In 2019, I served as the Deputy commander of the R.O.Korea unit of the UNC JSA Security Battalion. In 2020, I served at the R.O.K.-U.S. CFC(Combined Forces Command). I worked at the R.O.K. Army Headquarters from 2021 to 2022.
