The Political Economy and Labor Seminar (PELS) at Watson exists as a forum where presenters from across the social sciences are invited to speak, in an inter-disciplinary setting, on any topics central to political economy and/or labor. Past speakers include Paul Tucker (Ex-Deputy Governor, Bank of England), Jason Sharman (University of Cambridge, International Relations), Sylvia Maxfield (Providence College, School of Business), Arin Dube, (Economics, U Mass Amherst), Monica Prasad (Sociology, Northwestern). This year we will welcome to the seminar Branko Milanovic (CUNY Graduate Center), Cornel Ban (Boston University IR), Pauline Jones (University of Michigan, Political Science) as well as a conference on the New Financial Geopolitics, which will bring together academics working on the issues of monetary power, inequality and geopolitics.
