Fall 2011 Duncan Pieterse is a PhD candidate in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He completed an Honours and Masters in Business Science (Economics) at the University of Cape Town.
Duncan’s PhD research examines the impact of exposure to violence on the outcomes of young people in Cape Town, South Africa. The research uses the Cape Area Panel Study (combined with official police crime statistics) to explore the nature of violence in Cape Town as well as its impact on educational attainment and labour market outcomes. His research is supported by grants from the African Economic Research Consortium, the Centre for Social Science Research at the University of Cape Town and the National Research Foundation.
Duncan is a part-time lecturer in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town where he coordinates and teaches the Economics Module of the Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management course.
