Dmitrieva holds a Doctorate of Science in Sociology (2004) from Moscow State Lomonosov University. She is director of the Health and Development Foundation, a Russian NGO that develops and implements health communication and health system improvement projects in Russia. She also heads Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health’s office in Russia (since 2007). Dr Dmitrieva has significant expertise and experience in public health programs, with an emphasis on reproductive health, drug and HIV/AIDS prevention, and youth risk behavior. She has pioneered programs in Russia on behavior change communication campaigns and introduced usage of mobile technologies in health promotion. She teaches courses in sociology of health and health communication at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Dr Dmitrieva has published extensively in Russian and English in the areas of health communication, sociology of health, and communication and counseling on HIV. She has a forthcoming article in International NGO Journal: “A model for Retention and Continuity of Care and Treatment for Opioid Dependent Injection Drug Users in Russian Federation.”
