Marlon Jimenez Oviedo

Marlon Jiménez Oviedo headshotMarlon Jiménez Oviedo is a PhD student in Theatre Arts and Performance Studies and a master’s student in Development Studies through Brown’s Open Graduate Education Program. As an artist/scholar, Marlon is interested in movement traditions, both embodied practices and social movements that live outside systems of authorship and off the stage or museum spaces. He engages transnational queer performance, ancestral indigenous performance traditions and cultural tourism as sites for global negotiations around identity creation, nation building and political resistance. He is interested in whether global movements may function as openings for resistance or revolution, while always being circumscribed and undermined by the hold of the neocolonial projects that sustain them via international economic and political systems.
