I received my BA in history and political science at York University in Toronto, Canada. I completed my MA work at the Department of Political Science at McGill University, the Center for Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (where I was a Queen Elizabeth II Scholar), and the Department of Sociology at University of California at Berkeley (where I was a visiting student). I am interested in comparative and historical sociology, focusing in particular on the co-construction and co-articulation of class/ caste/ race/ ethnicity in South Asia and South Asian diasporas. My previous work focused on issues of development and citizenship.
