Dr Swaminathan is Shri RK Hegde Chair Professor on Decentralization and Governance at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, India. He has a PhD in political science from Claremont Graduate University and specializes in comparative political economy and world politics. Titles of some of his recent publications include “The New Century: US Dominance, European Integration, and the Asian Challenge” (in Transformacje, with J Kugler and R Tammen, 2007) and “Saving the Next Generation: Political Capacity and Infant Mortality Decline in India’s States” (in International Interactions, with J Thomas, 2007). He is currently working on a book manuscript entitled “Breeding Prosperity: The Politics of Fertility and Economic Development.”
