Turkish Soap Operas such as Gümüs (Silver in English; Noor in Arabic) and the recent Muhtesem Yüzyil (Magnificent Century in English; Hareem as-sultan in Arabic) have launched high-production value Ramadan novellas into the homes of millions of Arabs. This trend has regional ramifications for politics, economics, and social and cultural life. During this event, we will watch two controversial episodes of recent soap operas and explore the latest developments in relations between Turkey and the Arab Middle East.
