Political Art & Satiric Expression: The Khartoon! Movement in Middle East Today

Wednesday, November 9, 2016

6:00pm – 7:30pm

Wilson Hall, Room 302
75-91 Waterman Street

Light refreshments will be served.

The SWANA Heritage Series will be hosting Khalid Albaih, an artist known for satirical cartoons and commentary about political situations/events in the Middle East. Khalid is the founder of the #Khartoon movement.

Khalid will discuss the space that exists for political opposition and dissent in/about the Middle East. He will talk about his work in expressing political and social views through cartoons (and will share his cartoons with us!), and talk about why this mode of expression appeals to him and how the arts are increasingly relevant in the today's political climate.

This event is meant to showcase a means by which revolution and political situations in the Middle East can be communicated and expressed through artistic mediums.

Light refreshments will be served.
