Brown in Washington, D.C. Program

The Brown in Washington, D.C. program offers undergraduate students from all concentrations the opportunity to live and learn in Washington, D.C., while completing a practical internship experience and coursework in policy and public service.

Academic Requirements
Students will enroll in 3 or 4 Brown University courses, and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours during the semester in D.C.
- Practicum (4-credit): 25-hours/week internship placement, S/NC only
- Reflection seminar (4-credit): Theory and Practice of Public Service, S/NC only
- Policy Seminar (4-credit): taught by a Brown Public Policy faculty member. S/NC or Grade
- Optional: Independent study (4-credit) - S/NC or Grade

Eligibility & Prerequisites
- Junior or senior in good academic standing
- Intro Public Policy or equivalent offering from other departments
- Completed a year on campus prior to the program

Program Costs
Tuition for the program is $25,112 for the spring semester (the same as full-time enrollment at Brown in Providence). Housing, food/meals, travel, books, and other personal expenses are estimated at $9,400 for the semester, though expenses may vary according to individual spending habits and other factors (see back page for estimated program costs table). Brown students eligible for financial aid (with few exceptions) may use their aid for the Brown in Washington, D.C. program.
