Dear MES Concentrators,
I hope you had a restful and restorative break and that the semester is off to a great start! We have a wide array of fascinating MES and X-listed courses for Spring 2019, and are thrilled to welcome new faculty member Nadje Al-Ali, who joined Brown this year as Robert Family Professor of International Studies and professor of anthropology and Middle East studies. We are excited to learn what all of you have been working on via the Undergraduate Paper Series in March and Senior Paper Presentations on May 1. Another excellent way to be involved with the concentration is to serve as an MES Undergraduate Fellow (the application deadline to become a 2019-2020 fellow is April 24). Though summer may feel far away, it's never too soon to start thinking about travel plans: remember, the deadline for Middle East Studies Research Travel Awards is April 1st. In the meantime, stay warm and don't hesitate to be in touch to discuss concentration requirements, your course plans, study abroad, or anything else that's on your mind!
