Consultancy: Working in the City of Providence's Department of Innovation

Derrick Zantt MPA '16 is spending part of his twelve-week consultancy as a fellow in the City of Providence's Department of Innovation. Zantt is part of a team that recently submitted a proposal for Department of Transportation challenge grant.

The competition, “Smart City Challenge,” will award $40 million to one mid-sized city that “puts forward bold, data-driven ideas to improve lives by making transportation safer, easier, and more reliable” while taking an integrated approach public safety, public services, and energy use. The Challenge is intended to address how emerging transportation data, technologies, and applications can be integrated with existing systems to address transportation challenges as mid-sized cities grow.

Zantt developed three of the twelve required vision elements in Providence’s proposal.
