Assistant Director of Career Services

Assistant Director of Career Services Heather Wilkerson focuses exclusively on the career development of Brown's Master of Public Affairs students. She works with students to explore their strengths, develop their professional profiles, create career goals. During the course of the year, Heather helps students develop all the tools to necessary to identify and engage with future employers as they complete the MPA program.

Heather assists students in obtaining exciting consultancies, a core, hands-on learning experience of the MPA program. The twelve-week consultancy builds on coursework and serves as a springboard to post-graduation employment opportunities.Heather also builds employer and alumni relations partnerships for our program and works closely with Brown's Career LAB to collaborate and share resources.  

Heather previously served as Assistant Director of Leadership and Career Development for Brown Alumni Relations. In that role, she developed programs to engage Brown's 70,000-strong alumni network, including the Brown Alumni Executive/Career Coaches Program; the Alumni Career Webinar series; and the Alumni Career Spotlight Series. In addition, she managed a suite of online career development tools, student alumni networking events, and reunion forums. Heather also supported the Women’s Leadership Council's flagship mentoring program.

Heather has worked in both the human resources and career services field. She created and managed career assistance centers for HUD offices through the southeast and southwest, and built on that success to launch services for the Regional Federal Career Center in Atlanta.  

Heather has lived and worked in Sweden, where she taught conversational English and American culture.  Heather is a graduate of Emory and Georgia State University where she received a master's degree in counseling and has completed coursework in coaching, human resources and adult education programs.
