Peggy Desjarlais recently graduated from Rhode Island College (RIC) with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and political science. Her senior thesis at RIC explored how racism, exceptionalism, and political narrative-building gives rise to Islamophobia. Peggy participated in the College Leadership Rhode Island program, which strengthened her belief in equal protection under the law, and a desire to enter a career in public policy. She is proficient in French, Egyptian Arabic, and Bahasa Melayu. Peggy is inspired by the work of nonprofits that support refugees and develop and defend equitable social policy.
