Keith Brown is currently Associate Professor (Research) at the Thomas J. Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University. He received his PhD in anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1995, and his work has focused on the culture, history and politics of Macedonia. Following the publication of The Past in Question: Modern Macedonia and the Uncertainties of Nation (Princeton University Press, 2003), he has been working to bridge the gap between academic and policy perspectives on the former Yugoslavia by promoting dialogue between different constituencies. This has led to the edited volume Transacting Transition: The Micropolitics of Democracy Assistance in the Former Yugoslavia (Kumarian Press, 2006) and ongoing research into how international agencies evaluate assistance programs.
