In the wake of the BP oil spill and Toyota brake scandal, Institute Professor Catherine Lutz pointed to America's worship of technology as a root cause of such catastrophes. "America is in dire need of behavioral and political change in areas ranging from public leadership to corporate responsibility to the individual choice to drive and consume less," she wrote in an op-ed in the UK newspaper, the Guardian.
