The Brown community is remembering with fondness and gratitude Elizabeth (Betty) Garrison, who passed away on Monday.
Her involvement with the Watson Institute began with the creation of Brown's Center for Foreign Policy Development (CFPD) in 1981, when she worked to build the center as an administrator, administrative manager, and finally assistant director of administration alongside her husband Mark, the center's first director. Following their retirement from Brown, they started a blueberry farm together in Rhode Island.
Mark Garrison has continued his involvement with the Institute first as a member of the Watson board of overseers, and then as an overseer emeritus.
A memorial service will be held at Woodbury Union Church, West Shore Road and Beach Avenue, Warwick, on Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m. The family has requested that no flowers be sent, but contributions may be made if desired to Woodbury Church, PO box 9484, Warwick RI 02889, or to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
