Watson Launches New Undergraduate Initiatives

January 22, 2014

The Watson Institute for International Studies is launching a series of new initiatives this semester to engage with undergraduates around its core research areas of security, development, and governance.

The new initiatives support a range of learning opportunities for undergraduates:

  • Watson Sponsored UTRAs (Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards) will fund collaborative summer research projects with Institute-affiliated faculty.
  • Watson Sponsored LINK Awards will fund low-paying or unpaid summer internships in areas related to the Institute’s core research areas.
  • For the next academic year, the Watson Undergraduate Fellows Program, which offers Institute affiliation to a group of outstanding Brown students interested in international affairs, will be open to rising seniors in any concentration.

The Institute’s existing summer fellowship opportunities will also continue: the Jack Ringer Summer in Southeast Asia Fellowship; the Marla Ruzicka International Public Service Fellowship; and the South Asian Studies Student Fellowship. More information and application materials are available on Watson's Opportunities page.
