Director Ed Steinfeld's letter

Dear Friends,

Now that we’re in the final days of the spring term, I want to extend heartiest congratulations and sincerest thanks to you all for your accomplishments this past semester. Throughout this whole year of the pandemic, I’ve been continually awed by your resilience, your positivity, and your dedication to the academic community that we all share here at the Watson Institute. This semester was no different. It’s your energy and enthusiasm that keep all of us on the faculty and staff going. And, it’s that very same energy and enthusiasm that has ensured the vitality of our community and the continuation of Brown’s unique educational experience, despite all the challenges we’ve faced.

For those of you who will be graduating in a few days, and moving on to new and exciting experiences beyond Brown, I wish you best of luck on your ongoing journey. For those of you who will be heading off for the summer, and then returning in the fall when we’re – fingers crossed -- back to fully in-person education, I wish you a wonderful summer break. And, to our first-year students who will be continuing on with us for the summer semester, I look forward to continuing to see you frequently in the coming weeks.

But, for all of you, no matter where you are in your progress through Brown and beyond, I so hope you’ll stay in contact with all of us in the Watson community. I’m determined to keep us connected! We’re eager to revel in your successes, lend a helping hand if you encounter any bumps in the road, and continue to learn from your insights and creativity for many more years to come.

Stay safe, be well, and stay in touch! Congratulations to you all!

Best,

Ed Steinfeld
