Gabreélla (Ella) Friday completed her Ph.D. in Sociology at Binghamton University in May of 2022. She worked as a prisoner’s rights advocate, community organizer, professor, and researcher for Binghamton University and the greater Binghamton community. Her areas of specialization include mass incarceration, women, gender and sexuality studies, time and social theory, critical race theory, and social movements. Ella’s dissertation project centered the narratives of incarcerated women and how they understand, interact with, and even resist the time of imprisonment. More generally, she seeks to understand the intersections of race, gender, and time in order to construct a Black feminist understanding of time.
