The role of deliberation in development: an interdisciplinary exploration, new book co-edited by Patrick Heller

July 24, 2015

A new book edited by Patrick Heller, sociologist and Watson faculty, and Vijayendra Rao, a lead economist at The World Bank, offers the first interdisciplinary exploration of the role of deliberation in development.

Hailed as a “landmark” by political scientist John Dryzek, Deliberation and Development: Rethinking the Role of Voice and Collective Action in Unequal Societies is a collection of essays by leading scholars examining two fields that have rarely engaged with one another – deliberation theory and development studies.  Rich in practical relevance, the book sheds light on how to best design and implement policies to strengthen the role of participation in development.
