Jayanti Owens Selected as a 2020 William T. Grant Scholar

May 6, 2020

In May 2020, Jayanti Owens was selected as a William T. Grant Scholar for her project, What Drives Racial/Ethnic Disparities in School Discipline? Understanding Mechanisms to Inform Policy Solutions. The grant will allow her to assist schools in developing and evaluating a diagnostic tool to reduce racial/ethnic disparities in student discipline.

Jayanti Owens has been named a recipient of the 2020 William T. Grant Scholars awards and will receive $350,000 for her ongoing project, What Drives Racial/Ethnic Disparities in School Discipline? Understanding Mechanisms to Inform Policy Solutions. The grant will allow Owens to continue her project by developing and evaluating a diagnostic tool to reduce racial disparities in discipline. Her work will provide schools with aggregated information about the sources of discipline gaps in their specific institution, without singling out individual teachers.
