Raile Rocky Ziipao is trained as a multi-disciplinary researcher and development practitioner. He holds PhD in Social Sciences and Master in Development Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. His Ph.D thesis examined the social dynamics of infrastructure development in India’s frontier and border region from socio-anthropological and political perspective using political economy as his theoretical framework. His thesis gives primacy to infrastructure within the development discourse in North East India that provides the basis to understand the issues of access, inclusion, equity, social justice among other things. His research interest includes frontier’s highways, political economy of Indigenous/Tribal/Adivasi peoples development, critical infrastructure studies, philosophy of Indigenous methodology (perspective from within), and an alternative path to modernity.
Ziipao of is currently Raghunathan Family Fellow (South Asia Fellow) at the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute, Harvard University.
