Patrick Heller, professor of sociology and international studies and director of the Graduate Program in Development, recently took part in the 2014 International Conference on Deepening Democracy (ICODD) held in Kerala from January 19 to 21. The conference brought together elected representatives, officials, policy makers, research scholars and academicians from various states within India and abroad to share the experiences in democratic decentralization and participatory planning so as to fomulate a strategy for further strengthening local governments.
Professor Heller was also recently in Bangalore for a meeting of the citizenship index research group, part of a collaborative project with Initiative research partner Janaagraha. The Janaagraha/Brown Citizenship Index Project explores questions of citizenship and public service delivery in urban India.
