Jess Weng is a senior concentrating in Computer Science. Jess’ project with the Stone Inequality Initiative investigates intergenerational transmission of educational advantage. Based on research that shows that there is a weaker link between parents’ educational attainment and outcomes in Latinx households, her work with Professor David Rangel investigates outcomes in mixed-education Latinx households (where one parent has a college degree and the other does not). The project explores how longstanding racial, gender, and class inequalities from childhood are perpetuated on college campuses and life amidst higher education. Jess hopes to continue her work through a career in technology sales, as well as continuing her engagement with the intersection of ethics and computer science that she has begun as a head teaching assistant at Brown.
